While I pray for strength
and faith to face what I must, I also pray
for courage and discernment to do what I
need to do with what I’ve
learned.
— Pam Williams
As a breast
cancer survivor, I know the importance
of easy-to-read, understandable and accurate
breast cancer information — for
the patient, their family and friends. The
Breast Cancer Resource Directory of North
Carolina provides that information.
This Resource
Directory is meant to be used as a resource
for you, whether you have just been diagnosed
with breast cancer, someone dear to you
has been diagnosed, or you just want
to learn more to increase your knowledge
of breast cancer. No other publication contains
all of the information provided in the
Resource Directory, especially not by each
county!
If you have been diagnosed
with breast cancer or know of someone who
has, use this information, along with your
doctor’s
advice, to help make the major decisions
that lie before you.
Women Helping Women
was formed to fund post-surgical devices
such as prostheses, bras, and wigs for
low-income, uninsured or underinsured women,
and to distribute breast cancer information
to the people of North Carolina.
From the
beginning, we were a willing supporter
and distributor of the Resource Directory.
When Jamie and Liz came to us in 2005 to
ask if we would consider “adopting” the
Resource Directory, we were very
excited. Needless to say, the answer was
a resounding “yes.” And
here we are today, offering the Third
Edition of the Breast Cancer Resource
Directory of North Carolina.
For those
of you who are learning about the Resource
Directory for the first time, we hope you
take comfort in knowing that you are holding
one of the nation’s best
and most comprehensive statewide
resource directories. The Resource
Directory has served as a model for
other statewide resources. We are very
fortunate in North Carolina to have
such a wonderful resource for breast
cancer survivors, and that it is free
of charge for anyone who needs it.
To the best of our knowledge, the information
in this publication is accurate. However,
we know that information changes daily. If
you find something that needs updating, please
be sure to let us know so we can update the
web site and future printed editions.
Thank you for choosing the
Resource Directory. I know you will be pleased
that you did.
